A wide variety of awareness days are celebrated in our current times. Its usually a welcome experience learning / becoming aware of something I wasn't previously aware of. There's one coming up on 15th June which broke my heart. It is World Elder Abuse Day. Elder abuse can be defined as “a single, or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person. Thankfully the UN has recognised this day as representing the one day in the year when the whole world voices its opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted to some of our older generations.
UK's Alzheimer's Society went one step further in this article by lookig at abuse and mistreatment which people with dementia could potentially suffer in hospitals and care homes. Really heartbreaking stuff. the https://buff.ly/39au89K
